The Cost of Doing Business

I am beginning to notice a pattern.  When my husband walks Finn, she won't do her business for him.  She barks to let us know she needs to go out at night, and when he takes her, it's playtime.  It's outdoor tug-o-war, it's jumping around, it's madness and chaos.  When I take her, it's strictly business.  We walk to our location and she does what she has to do and then we come back.  There's some jumping and playing on the way back, it's not at the same level as with my husband.

* Disclaimer - when my husband walks Finn in the morning or during the day, she has no problem doing her business.  This is strictly a nighttime ritual.

Any reasoning?

  1. It's playtime with Daddy and down to business with boss mum. Have a lovely Monday.

  2. We do have our peculiarities, don't we? BOL

Have you tried using a word command when she does her business with you and praise her highly, maybe a tiny tasty treat? Then have your husband do the same thing, may take a few tries, but it should work if he is firm and consistent.

    Good luck.

  3. Finn....
I do not have any advice to give regarding this situation.... Sorry. Although.... I did appreciate Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning's comment!! Brilliant!! ;)
Did you know that pumpkin is a natural laxative for dogs? Honestly.... I give Rose a spoonful of pumpkin every night before our evening walks, plus exercise her on strict morning and nighttime schedules. She has bowel movements nearly every morning without fail!! ;-D
Good luck in finding solutions to this problem!! ;op

  4. To add to what the OP pack said, a word is very useful. Tucker and Daisy were trained as puppies to do their business when we said hurry up, in a nice, non-threatening tone, and I still use it today if I want them to take a quick pee before we are out for a while.

  5. Well of course we treat our parents differently, for instance I greet Mummy2Legs home from work calmly but greet Daddy2legs jumping with all my 4legs off the ground. When Daddy2Legs lets me out at night I bark around the garden - I don't when Mummy2Legs does it - yet loves them both the same - it's just how I get the best response out of both of them - too clever us 4Legs - too clever!

  9. Oddly, I have a sense of deja vu with this post, like I've read it before.

It sounds like Finn thinks going out with Daddy is playtime, rather than time to get down to business. No advice, sorry!

Hope you're enjoying your Memorial Day!

  10. No advice here. But sounds like playing time with dad more than business time!

  11. Sounds like Finn might think Dad is a little softer and that he can get away with it when he's with him. I don't know how to help though!

  15. Hi Finn. I'm Gemma. Nice to meet you. I found your post interesting as I am better at "doing my business" with Mum than I am with Dad. In my case, I think maybe Mum's been much more patient and persistent with it than Dad. But when I'm being naughty, I take Dad being cross more seriously than Mum. Guess we just know how to work it. BOL x

  16. Howdy Finn, we do the same thing with our Dad but not all the time. Sometimes he takes us out for a wee and then comes back and says we didn't do anything, then mum takes us straight out again and we do one hehehe. We know mum means business though (gulp). No worries, and love, Stella and Rory
