Doggone Doggie Swap

We participated in The Wyldechild's Doggone Doggie Swap again this year!  We love getting surprises in the mail.  Our partner was Cali and we got our pressie box last week!

Finn gets right in there!

Nice!  A large rope toy for chewing!

Awesome!  Another rope toy!
That would be Finn jumping in the background!

New fave!

Plenty of treats!

Sniff-test!

Approved!

Thanks Cali and thank you to the Wylde One for hosting the swap!

Darn Rug.

One day, I noticed the rug in the dining room was bubbling.

It wasn't like that the day before.

We lifted it up, and discovered a HUGE wet mark underneath the rug.

Could it have been a leak from the air conditioning?  No, ruled that out.

Did Finn pee on the rug?
She had let us sleep in until 8am that day, a feat which rarely happens.
So maybe she didn't bug us to get up because she didn't need to go out?
We put down some paper towels and noticed that the liquid was not yellow.

Hmmm...hubby had played with Finn in the sprinkler the day before, she came in sopping wet and she had laid down on the rug to take a nap.
Ah ha!  The top part had dried, but the bottom had not.

So, alas, we had to dry out the rug and weigh it down on the edges so it bubbled no more.

Now we dry her off after all sprinkler fun.

A Dog's Journey

I have a lot of time to read in my commute.  I usually run into the library on weekends and grab a couple of books off the New Releases shelf and that will tide me over for a week.  So one day, I noticed this book was in my pile to read, and I will thrilled!

A Dog's Journey was a wonderful read.  It is the story about a dog, who is re-incarnated several times, trying to find the purpose of his lives, and understanding that it is his role to care for a woman, CJ.  The dog meets CJ as a baby, a teenager, a young woman, and then as a older daughter caring for her sick mother, and each time she has an increasing and desperate need to be unconditionally loved, as only a dog can do.  It isn't until their final meeting where the dog knows he has done his job of caring for, protecting, loving, and being a true companion to CJ, and other people he has run into along the way.

I have to tell you, I laughed at times, I full on sobbed at times (in a packed train during rush hour with tears streaming down my face) and I smiled at times knowing that our dogs pick us, and what a wonderful idea it is that they may be looking out for us over and over again through their own path.

A great book - as long as you don't mind accepting a tissue from the man next to you on the train (yes!).  Well worth reading.

And Finn enjoys the extra hugs I give her now after I read it too.

Manhattan Dogs

I think

  they think

they've got more swagger than non-Manhattan dogs.

But...

they haven't met us, you know?

*No Manhattan dogs were harmed or insulted in the creation of this blog post*

More of Seein' the Sites

If you're ever in the concrete jungle around lunchtime and you can't find me in my office, I am probably up here.  I love this little building on the pier.  I normally walk up those stairs on the right, and you can see the water in between, it makes me a little jittery!

View to the left, South Street Seaport.
Plenty of tourists and shoppers and kiddies mulling about!

Dirty old boat!

Brooklyn Bridge.  Say hello Brooklyn!

View to the right.  Nothing really special, except
way in the distance in the bridge from Brooklyn to Staten Island.

I'm not the only one who has found this spot!

Golden Party

I have a neighbor, Sam (human), and his friend Buddy (golden).  Finn and Buddy pass each other on the street from time and time and always go crazy for each other.

One morning I was feeling particularly neighborly, and I asked Sam if he and Buddy wanted to come over for some play time.

I think it was a pretty good idea for everyone involved!

We're In Trouble

Finn now recognizes the passes for the dog park.

I took them out of the cabinet on Wednesday and she went bonkers!

That would be a leap she is performing.  In reaction to the passes.

Blogville

So, my Momma and I were out last weekend having breakfast.  She isn't really a dog fan, but she understands that Finn is the grandchild I have produced for her, so she plays along.

"How's the boyfriend Finn has in Singapore?" she asks.  (Cody, where are you??  We miss you!!)

"I don't know," I say.  "They haven't been posting in a while.  But, we are planning a dog and cat Olympics.  People signed up for different sports they are going to host.  I am doing the Closing Ceremony!"  (I share TOP SECRET details of the ceremony with her.  She cannot be bribed, don't try!)

"When are you having the Olympics?"

"During the actual Olympics.  We are very organized."

Now, she begins to look at me kind of strangely.  She tilted her head to the side and asked me if I was okay.

"Yes, I am fine.  Here," I say as I pull out some pictures on my phone.  "This is Finn breathing on our front door for Nose Art, this is Finn drawing us for the Draw Your Peeps event.  And this is Finn wrestling with the bathtub.  See?  All the events are like dog-related."

Mom took a sip of her coffee and changed the subject.  Probably to my brother's children, you know, human kids.

Now, I ask you.  Have you ever tried to explained Blogville to non-Blogville residents?  Do these folks then feel your forehead to see if you have a fever?  Do they look at you sideways?  Do they ask you if you are alright?  I think it's hilarious!  I remember when Sprinkles was doing an Anthropology class project, and she was going to argue in her paper that Blogville was its own culture.  I gave her some examples of how I thought this was true!  And now, seeing my mother's reaction, it is more true to me than ever!

So, how do your loved ones react when you explain Blogville to them?

PSA and Dog Park Wrestling

Happy Independence Day!!
My friend Megan always says you have to call today Independence Day, and not just the Fourth of July.  On Christmas you don't say "Merry 25th of December," do you?
Of course not!
Let's remember what this day is all about!

Now, on to the show -

Finn thinks she can take on the 160 lb-er.

Pause while the other doggie owner takes a picture.

Back to it.

Is wrestling a Blogville Olympic sport??
I think Finn's a contender this year.

Operation Phat - The Secret Path

See this opening here?

This opening has caused Momma such shame.  She and Pops have been living in their house for two years, and she just now noticed this opening.  It is essentially around the corner from her house, and she didn't even notice the path that cut through it!  Silly Momma.  So, off we went to explore...

Look at these little hills.  What could they be for?

Finn heads down one to investigate.

Hmmm - which way to go?  To the left or to the right?

We chose to the right and almost immediately got run over by an ATV!  Ah-ha!  Hence the man-made hills!  So, we went to the left and quickly discovered we had popped out...

...in the next neighborhood!

So, directly across the street, the path continued, and we followed along.  We were behind some house, and a dog came over and started barking at us, and Finn gave me the sign to turn around go back home, so we did.  But we shall venture to the right again and see where that leads us!  Till next time!
