Riverhead

We took a ride out to Riverhead, where the north and south forks of Long Island meet.  There is a cute little promenade where, in pre-Finn times, my hubby and I would get some lunch, sit at one of the tables and watch the paddleboaters and kayakers go by.

We decided Finn needed a new place to sniff on this particular day, and she loved it - the ducks, the water, the people saying, "Aw, cute puppy," the birds and the breeze.

A great afternoon.

Rain Rain Go Away!

Rain....

Torrential rain...

Boredom...

I even tried to take her to the dog park in the rain, and she had a fabulous time
until the thunder started to roll in...

Wishing it would let up....

Someone needs to resume her daily mischief of digging, squirrel and bird chasing, sniffing the grass and pulling the walker....

"F" Outtakes

We had a lot of fun taking some pictures for Jack's alphabet book.

We had the F up in a bush, on our back door, in with her toys, up on the wall, and then finally with Finn on her pillow and with her favorite toy of all.

Here are some of our favorite outtakes, and the final photo we submitted is last...

The funny thing is that we left the F up on the cabinet while we went
out during the day after we finished our photo shoot.
When we got home, Finn had ripped it off the cabinet and tore it to shreds.

Guess she was tired of her F!
But we think that last picture is Fabulous!
And, we cannot wait to see everyone's alphabet pictures!

Bad to the Bone Contest

By now you know, Tucker is having a Bad to the Bone Contest.

I thought you all might want to see my entry since you probably all think I am cute, and adorable, and have a snuggly little puppy face.

Don't be fooled.  I am bad.  To the bone.

This is how I described my bad behavior to Tucker:

See, my Pops is a contractor.  And sometimes Momma lets him eat his dinner in front of the tv cause she knows he's been working hard all day.
I however, do not care how hard he works.
And, I want a piece of his dinner.

You see here, I start out just watching him.

Then I move in a little closer.

Then I jump on him to get a quick lick of what he's eating.

Bad I tell you.  Real bad.

Tucker's accepting entries until September 21st.  You gotta email him your badness.

More of Seein' the Sites - Building Bits and Pieces

These are neat little architectural elements I photographed over a lunch hour.

I'm actually quite impressed that I was able to focus on the elements and not have anyone walk in front of my photos!

Some of the captions are links to the buildings themselves if you'd like some more info...

48 Wall Street

72 Wall Street

75 Wall Street

55 Wall Street
I fell down the steps after taking this picture.
No bleeding.  Minimal embarrassment.

60 Williams Street

70 Pine Street

Back entrance to my office building!
I'm actually quite proud of myself because some folks turned to see what I was photographing from time to time.  I would like to think for a brief moment they were able to appreciate something pretty in the middle of the hustle and bustle of their day.  I stopped to read a plaque about the financial district put up by the city and a man in a suit stopped behind me and read it too.  Not too busy to learn something!

My Living Room Turns Into an ER

An emergency came into the living room one night...

"Momma, do you think he can be saved?"

....
....
...
....

It was touch and go for a few minutes.
Momma's hands suddenly couldn't thread a needle.
Finn had to be brought into the waiting room (kitchen).
The lion needed to be sedated.

The surgery was successful and Mr. Lion rests post-op.

And he's back in the game.
Being bitten in the same arm which almost fell off several moments before.

Thank you to Cotton for this award!  We love it!

The Dog Who Danced

Once again, I found myself reading a dog-related book on my commute.  I enjoyed this book - a story about a woman who is separated from her dog on a cross-country excursion, and the couple who finds him.  The woman goes to lengths to find him, while re-living her journey which made her the dog lover she is today.  The couple, suffering from an unimaginable recent loss, finds their pain being eased and their lives once more bearable because of their love for their new friend.

This book is not sad, it did not make me cry, and a random stranger on my commute did not have to give me a tissue like the last time.  It was slightly predictable.  Did it pass my time on the train?  Sure.  Was it an easy read?  Yes.  Did I learn something about Shelties?  Of course.  Would I recommend it to any of you?  Only if you happen to see it and know you need something to kill a few hours of your day.  I enjoyed it, but I did not love it.

The main thing I want to say about this book though is that the dog kind of forgets his previous owner over time, a month perhaps, if that.  He remembers there is someone else he is looking for and somewhere else he is supposed to be, but he can't remember what specifically.  I recognize this book is a work of fiction, but this concept, upon some minor reflection, made me unbelievably upset, and I wondered if when I left Finn for a couple of weeks when I went on vacation, she forgot to remember me too.  What do you think about that?
