Observations

To all of my new followers, welcome, welcome!  Hope you're all enjoying my adventures with Finn.

I love taking pictures of my girl, but sometimes, the camera isn't ready, and I'd just like to enjoy the moment with her without trying to capture it.  I've noticed some things about her, which just make me chuckle...

Finn is always looking at what's over her head.  If she hears a plane, she'll look up at the sky, have a seat, and just watch it pass us by.

Finn's a scaredy-cat.  The little-ist thing makes her jump.  We live near the woods, and sometimes we hear shots, and Finn will jump and just run all the way back home.  Once, she looked up and saw a portable basketball hoop.  It scared her and she ran away form that too.

Finn loves little people.  We wonder if it is because she thinks they are closer to her size.  She will play with anyone who is in the three foot height range.

Since we have been home from our vacation in September, Finn has been a little angel when she's been left alone.  She hasn't munched on our carpets at home and she is no longer the office terror.  I used to have to time taking her out to do her business in between my meetings at work, and now I know she can hold it for long periods of time.  We have been able to leave her alone in the house for 7 hours without any destruction!  She's learning!

Finn hates when we eat at the table and she cannot survey our meals.  She walks around the table and tries to get a good angle to see what we are eating.  She also knows when the microwave goes off or I start cooking on the stove that there may be a chance she'll get a scrap, and she'll lay on the kitchen floor waiting for the moment that I drop or drip something.

Finn sighs.  Finn sighs at moments when a human would sigh to show displeasure.  Finn has sighed when she has learned we aren't going out to play, when she's been told to be quiet, when she understands that she isn't getting any of momma's and pop's dinner.

Finn loves cartoons.  And seeing dogs on tv.  Know that scene in Sex and the City when Charlotte shows her dog, Elizabeth Taylor, and wins the prize?  She then takes the dog to the dog park and the poor thing gets pregnant there.  Finn hopped down off the couch and stared at the tv screen when that whole scene was happening.  Her tail was wagging and I think she thought she was at the dog park with them.  We wonder what she thinks the tv is.

On days when we stay home, Finn will sit outside whatever room I am in to remind me that it is time to take her for her morning walk.  And when I go to the door and get my shoes on and click that leash on her, she is ready for our next adventure together.  She's a great friend.

  2. Oh Finn, you are just growing up. Our doggie, Jasmine is very afraid of shots outside. And our other doggies is scared to death of strange noises. She goes beserk when the cats get under the house. So Finn, it is all right if you are a little afraid.Take care.

  3. Our dogs love watching dogs on TV. I love the show supernatural and they have scenes with hell hounds on the show, very loud and invisible, the dogs go nuts barking at the screen and running around looking for the dog

  4. Finn sounds like quite the character and she's growing up. Watching the sky may be a retriever thing. Our dogs watch the sky, planes and birds. :)

  5. Wow, my peeps had a Golden before me and he used to groan...really groan. Mom called them his "old man noises". BOL When I want a walk, I go to where my leash hangs on a peg and give it a swing with my nose. Great hint. I think Finn's a super girl and I bet you love each other very much!

  6. We really enjoyed reading about Finn - Mom was thinking about this just the other day as Denny is so different from me and she was thinking about 'observations' too. It is fun to look back and see how we grow

  9. Finn is a lucky pup! The scared thing is just working with it and letting her get used to what frightens her. Patience.

Our Stewie loves TV. He can't wait till the evening to hop on the "Bark-a-lounger" and cuddle up with us to watch what's on. He does prefer animal shows. Often he falls asleep (like my hubby).

The kitchen helper....I call them doggy vacuums as they become so quick at licking up whatever falls from above.

I like that Tucker sighs. How cute is that?! Right now Tucker is the talker. He makes the cutest grunts when you pick him up. Just melts us all over...

  10. Hey Finn, running from scary noises and things is actually wise. I mean, don't run to far and look where your going and all, but you never know what kind of alian or earthly creatures are lurking in the darknes.

I call it RESPECT. Respect for the unknown.

so run My Friend Run. But don't for get to wait for your human. Remeber, you can out run your human if you have too.....(just sayin)

    Love

  12. I loved learning more about you, Finn! Just to let you know... I LOVE watching television too! For some reason my family finds it amusing that I love to sit and watch movies with them. Nala doesn't like watching TV -- she doesn't know what she's missing. ;)

Thanks for joining today's Dogs in Cars! :)

  21. She sure IS a great friend!! When I catch my cats watching something on TV, I too wonder what they think this thing is. My cats are also scared of the funniest things, sometimes things that make no sense to be scared of. Case in point: there is this stuffed cat toy called the Kong Kickaroo. Like a big stuffed sock, really. Whenever I get it out, Belle runs and hides. Cracks me up.

I enjoyed learning more about Finn. Happy Thanksgiving!

  23. It's amazing how much we learn about our animal companions. Most of it we pick up without really being aware of it. Suddenly one day we realize we know these things, most of them small, but I've always maintained that the true beauty of life is in the details. For instance, one it suddenly occurred to me that Duncan was "left-legged," meaning when he goes pee he only ever lifts his left leg, which sometimes causes quite a logistical conundrum. But when I noticed it my entire perception of him changed slightly, he became somehow more... accessible.

I love your observations, especially Finn's sighing. Duncan does a similar thing. And her fascination with cartoons. Priceless!
