She's A Faker!

This is almost too funny to share! Sometimes, with great urgency, Finn will jump at our back door, and I had always thought that it was because she really, really needed to go out. Alas, I have found out that I have been duped! Many, many times! It seems as though Finn has been fake-squatting! She jumps at the door, not because she needs to go out, but because she just wants to go out. And sometimes I am just thinking she needs to go out, and so I say over and over "wee wee" and she squats. Well, I have been checking the area of said squats, and it seems that she HAS BEEN FAKING IT for at least a week! And I know there has been no wee wee because I am feeling the earth!

Crazy dog! Anyone else encounter a faker from time to time? There haven't been any accidents in the house, so it's not like she's been neglected, she just really wants to go out! and I don't give her treats for going wee wee outside anymore, so she isn't looking for a treat. I guess to just be outside and sniff the air or something? To look at the birds and squirrels?

Oh, Finn!

  1. Now you know why we don't do the ring-the-bell to go out thing. Ours would be ringing and ringing. They almost always would rather spend time outside than in.

That Finn is a smart girl!

  3. I have a nice fenced in back yard & when the weather is nice I spend more time there than anywhere else. I go in and out about a billion times a day. Luckily my mom is here all day to serve my purposes, so I'm all set. It does seem to annoy them when I want to go out at 4 or 5 AM, though.

  6. You are quite the trickster Ms. Finn! I don't blame you though, if I could I'd spend all day just laying in the grass and exploring!

  7. Well, at least she asks to go out! My boys almost never do and usually when they do, it's because they think they need to investigate something out there.

  9. LOL - Finn's one smart cookie.

I learned a while ago that Bella will try to get me to take her out just by being fussy but when she REALLY has to go out, she'll bark. I'm happy to take her out just for the fun of it but if I'm really busy, I'll wait for the woof. :)

  11. My dogs do the fake pee when they are on walks, and they think I am gonna take them back home soon. They think if they fake pee I am gonna let them walk longer:)

  12. I only do the fake pee on walks. I have a fenced in yard, but sometimes I go for an actual walk in the neigborhood -- I make the walk just that much longer cause I fake pee on an extra dozen bushes if not more.

  13. That's so cute. She has probably figured that if she bumps the door, she gets extra time outside. Even if it means having to squat some fake pee. Smart girl, this Finn!

  15. Lol! That's a good one, smart dogs are always tricking their humans!..we need to fake a squat too! We ring the bell so much, sometimes mom just ignores us because she knows we just want to go outside to play and not go potty.

  18. Duncan, who has a sensitive belly, has learned that if he gulps really hard and pants, as though he's about to throw up, he gets to go outside any time of the day or night. And fast! Sometimes when he has been sick he'll keep it going an extra day or two just to get as much pleasure from being outside and seeing how fast he can get me to respond. I mean, who's not going to run when they think they're dog is about to yack?!

It really does beg the question, which one of us has trained the other.
