Sans Souci County Park

"Sans Souci" - French for "Without Worries"

You know when you think you are going to have everything under control and then it just turns out the complete opposite of how you would expect it to be?

For instance, going to a park with a name like "Without Worries"
should be an enjoyable spring morning.

But...

First, we couldn't find the entrance.  Yep, it's clearly marked, as you can see here, but I drove right past it.  And then went down a side street to try to find it and wound up parking in front of someone's house before I realized that I had to have missed the entrance.  And then that person came out and stared at me wondering why I was camped out in front of their house.  Thank goodness for my little foursquare checkin which told me I was about .6 miles from the entrance.  Oops.  Try again!

Okay, off we go.  Lovely hiking trails.

Except Finn just didn't want to go in.  Oh, she made a little effort...maybe trotted herself in about 300 feet.  And then turned around and went straight back to the car.  So, we tried again and again, but she just had no desire to go into the park.

So, we just spent the morning sniffing around the parking lot...

Letting the wind blow through our golden locks in the parking lot...

And then sniffing our way over to the fire department, located right next to the park...

And then dragging me back to the car.

No worries!

  4. Wonder why you don't like the park Finn. But as long as you had a good time in the parking lot. Maybe next time, Mom should take a chair and just sit down right inside the entrance. Also may Finn is afraid you are going to leave her there. Take care and have a good day.

  7. Looks like it might have been a fun park to go for a walk. But maybe Finn sensed something in there that made her just not want to go in. We pups are pretty smart about things like that, you know:)

    Enjoy the weekend.

  11. This post is reminding my mom of my parents' first dog, Dagmar! She was a beautiful golden retriever!
One day, my parents brought her to the local metroparks for a walk. Well, Dagmar wanted nothing to do with a walk in the beautiful park. They tried and tried to coax her, but no - she just kept walking to their car in the parking lot. Maybe this is a golden retriever thing???

  13. Who knows why they do the things they do, make the decisions they make. This has happened to me a number of times and I've always just chalked it up to Duncan knowing something I don't. He's never led me astray so I have to trust his instinct. Maybe it was a good thing you didn't venture past the entrance.

  14. Sniffing is the best - and I find the best smells are in car parks, and gateways and sometimes you just DON'T need the places humans want to take you.

Well done for knowing your own mind.

    Love and licks, Winnie

  15. Well I used to take my dogs on a lot of hikes and lately Ive been a bit lax, they seem to enjoy walking in the city as much if not more. Perhaps the smells of all the other dogs are just as interesting, I imagine the down town area where we live is filled with interesting smells form resteraunts and such. Car parks are probably the same. I like that you let Finn make the choice

  19. Freya is the same in many ways, when we take her in places that are out of her comfort zone. She whines. Your ego tells you that your dog loves you. yet you know this isn't good for your dog. SO GET A FELEXi lead :-) IT will help her....... won;t make you feel good :-) ......... ah.. bless her. As Freya Rose Blossom would say . :-) LOTS OF LUVS xxxxxxxxxx
